About
Will Bruey co-founded Varda Space Industries in 2021 and serves as CEO, building the first commercial in-space pharmaceuticals manufacturer and the reentry vehicles needed to bring product back to Earth. Before Varda he was an electrical engineer at SpaceX, where he was lead hardware engineer on Falcon and Dragon programs and flew nine missions to the International Space Station as a mission control spacecraft operator. Bruey's thesis is that microgravity is a uniquely productive environment for small-molecule crystallization that cannot be replicated on the ground, opening a new manufacturing surface for high-value pharmaceuticals. Varda has now flown multiple successful reentry capsules, returning crystallized drug substance and operationalizing the only commercial space-to-Earth supply chain in service.
