About
Guillaume Verdon co-founded Extropic in 2022 and serves as CEO, building thermodynamic computing chips that exploit electrical and thermal noise to perform probabilistic sampling natively in hardware, rather than fighting it as conventional silicon does. Before Extropic he was a research scientist at Alphabet's quantum computing group, X, where he worked on TensorFlow Quantum and quantum machine learning. Verdon is also publicly known under the pseudonym 'Beff Jezos' as a leading voice of the e/acc, or effective accelerationism, movement online. The company unveiled its Thermodynamic Sampling Unit and X0 chip in 2025 with claims of up to four orders of magnitude better energy efficiency than GPUs for generative AI workloads.
