Brandon Sorbom is co-founder and Chief Science Officer of Commonwealth Fusion Systems, where he leads the scientific roadmap behind the SPARC tokamak. As an MIT PhD student he led the 2015 ARC paper that laid out the conceptual design for a compact fusion pilot plant using YBCO high-temperature superconducting magnets, and that work became the technical foundation of CFS when it spun out of MIT's Plasma Science and Fusion Center in 2018. He co-founded the company alongside Bob Mumgaard, Dan Brunner, Zach Hartwig, Dennis Whyte, and Martin Greenwald.
