Operator of Vogtle 3 & 4 — the first new US reactors in a generation
The product
Operates 6 commercial reactors at three plants for parent Southern Company (NYSE: SO): Plant Vogtle 1-4 (Waynesboro, GA), Plant Hatch 1-2 (Baxley, GA), and Plant Farley 1-2 (Columbia, AL). Vogtle Units 3 & 4 are the first newly-built US reactors since 2016 and the only AP1000s currently in commercial service in the US.
The thesis
Southern Nuclear is the operational backbone of the only new large-reactor build the US has completed this century. Vogtle 3 (entered service 2023) and Vogtle 4 (2024) are the templated AP1000 design that any future US fleet build will reference for cost, schedule, and operations. Without their playbook, no one in the new-build wave has anything to learn from.
