Slate Auto

American-made low-cost customizable electric pickup

AutomotiveAdditive mfg
What they build

The product

Slate is developing an ultra-affordable two-seat electric pickup truck (target ~$25K with incentives) designed for radical simplicity, customization via dealer-level accessories, and US assembly. Engineering is in Troy, MI; design in Long Beach, CA; manufacturing planned at a converted plant in Warsaw, IN.

Why it matters

The thesis

Slate is the most explicit reindustrialization bet in autos right now: cheap, simple, US-built EV truck targeting the segment Detroit abandoned. Backed by Bezos and team from Stellantis and Ford. Reviving a closed Indiana printing plant for vehicle assembly is the canonical reshoring image.
