Relativity Space

3D-printed rockets, now under Eric Schmidt

AerospaceAdditive mfgDefense
What they build

The product

Relativity Space is developing Terran R, a fully reusable medium-to-heavy lift rocket, using Stargate — the world's largest metal 3D printers — to print the majority of the launch vehicle. Test and launch infrastructure spans Long Beach, Stennis (MS), and Cape Canaveral.

Why it matters

The thesis

If 3D-printed structures hold up at scale, Relativity bends the cost curve on heavy-lift manufacturing dramatically — and Eric Schmidt's hands-on backing from 2023 onward signals strategic importance for US heavy-lift sovereignty.
