The product
Joby designs and manufactures piloted, four-passenger electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft intended to serve as a quiet, zero-emission air taxi. The company runs vertically integrated production in Marina, CA and a final assembly site in Dayton, OH, and is pursuing FAA Type Certification to enable commercial passenger service.
The thesis
Joby is one of two American leaders attempting to stand up an entirely new domestic aviation manufacturing category. Re-establishing piloted electric aircraft production on US soil is a flagship reindustrialization play, with Department of Defense and commercial offtake.
