The product

Phantom — a bipedal humanoid robot built for both industrial automation and defense applications. The MK1 (5'9", 176 lb, 44 lb payload) is in production; a ruggedized Phantom 2 is targeted for combat-adjacent missions. Software stack covers VLM/VLA-based perception and control for general-purpose tasks.

Why it matters

The thesis

Foundation is the only U.S. humanoid company explicitly building for the DoD — most peers (Figure, Agility, Boston Dynamics) have publicly disclaimed defense use. Already pulled a $24M Pentagon contract and a Ukraine pilot, with ambitions to ship 10K-50K units by 2027.
