Atomic Semi

Desktop chip foundries — small, fast, radically simplified semiconductor fabs

SemiconductorsMachine toolsRobotics
What they build

The product

Atomic Semi designs and builds its own miniaturized semiconductor fabrication tools — lithography, deposition, etch, metrology — packaged into a small, fully integrated fab that can prototype and produce chips in hours instead of months. The company also makes its own precision mechatronics, automation robotics, and the Rust-based control software stack that runs the line. Two locations: SF (engineering / software / packaging automation) and Austin (fab build-out and process engineering).

Why it matters

The thesis

Modern leading-edge fabs cost $20B+ and are concentrated in TSMC, Samsung, and Intel. Atomic Semi is taking the opposite bet: that radically smaller, cheaper, faster-iterating fabs can serve the long tail of chip designs that today's foundries won't touch — a critical capability for US defense, hardware startups, and rapid-turn custom silicon. If it works, it reopens domestic fabrication for low- and mid-volume chips that have been offshored or simply don't get made.
