The product
The R1 fission microreactor — a factory-produced, transportable 100 kWe to 1 MWe reactor with a 6+ year core life, built around TRISO fuel pellets, sodium heat pipes, and a closed nitrogen Brayton power conversion cycle. Antares is standing up Antares Prime, a 145,000 sq-ft vertically integrated R&D and manufacturing facility in Southern California, with the goal of producing ten reactors per year.
The thesis
Antares is one of eleven companies selected for the DOE Reactor Pilot Program with a mandate to demonstrate a working reactor by July 4, 2026, and is the first company to receive an approved Nuclear Safety Design Agreement (NSDA). A US-built, deployable microreactor unlocks resilient power for forward operating bases, remote industrial sites, naval applications, and lunar/orbital missions — and reestablishes domestic capacity to actually mass-produce reactors, the literal core of any reindustrialization thesis.
